It’s The End of the World As We Know It…
As we enter phase one of the COVID-19 recovery here in Louisiana, it feels like we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. How many of us thought that this was it? That a rogue virus was going to take us all down? And then I got to thinking, how many times have we thought we were standing on the precipice? In the end, I've come to the conclusion that every time we face fear or the unknown, we eventually come out on the other side. Trust me, I'm not making light of the 80K+ people we've lost to coronavirus in the United States, I'm saying, protect yourself, but don't live in fear.
Fear is literally crippling. I remember when my family first moved to Louisiana in 1980, my brother told me the reason why the lake water had a red cast to it was because of piranhas. Yes, I thought the red clay changing the color of the water was blood and after that you couldn't convince me otherwise. I spent the day on dry land because of fear, instead of enjoying my time in the water at the lake. Granted, I was six-years-old at the time, but still.
Other childhood fears of mine included killer bees, sink holes, snakes, venomous spiders, enormous ant piles, being hit by a train, and other really irrational things of that nature. Of course, there are things we should fear. We should fear war, famine, massive storms and other acts of God. But, I'll say it again, you can't live in fear. It prevents you from ever truly enjoying your life.
So, as we enter phase one of recovery, be smart, be safe, and LIVE!
BTW, I asked my friends on social media what they truly feared would be the end for them. The answers ran the gamut and thankfully, we've all realized that those fears we held previously, were unfounded. Is there something you truly fear? Let me know in the comments section!
