Planned I-20 Exit Closure at Bert Kouns Pushed Back to Next Week
After announcing the closure of I-20 in west Shreveport for late this week, the DOTD has announced the road work in this area has been rescheduled.
The affected road work is at the I-20 westbound exit ramp (Exit 8) to LA 526, Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. It's here the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development began the $947,000 project in May of 2026 to extend the deceleration lane to allow for additional vehicle storage, and improved safety by allowing extra space for exiting vehicles to move from the higher speed interstate travel lanes.
Earlier this week, DOTD advised all motorists that this project would require the closure of the outside (right) lane of I-20 westbound and the exit ramp to LA 526 from 7:00 am on Thursday, August 27 until 6:00 pm on Friday, August 28.
However, in a notice yesterday, August 27, DOTD has alerted all drivers that this closure has now been rescheduled for next Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 am until 6:00 pm on Friday, September 4th.

Motorists should be advised of this temporary ramp closure, and plan accordingly, noting that there may be additional congestion in this area, particularly during peak travel times.
DOTD Suggests Using US 80 to Bert Kouns As Alternate Route During Exit Closure
This will be a total ramp closure and will require all vehicles to utilize alternate routes such as US 80 (Greenwood Rd) which can subsequently be taken back to LA 526 (Bert Kouns).
Of course, this work will be done "Weather Permitting" and inclement weather could delay, extend, or alter in other ways, the scheduled work day/hours.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you. Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
