Over four million COVID vaccines have been administered to residents of Louisiana. For the most part, there have been no complications.

However, according to Louisiana State Epidemiologist, Theresa Sokol, there have been 122 adverse events reported in Louisiana via the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting Systems also known as VAERS.

What Adverse Reactions Are Louisiana Lawmakers Looking Into?

It's those 122 events that Louisiana lawmakers have questions about and they've taken those questions directly to the top health officials in the state.

In a story originally reported by the Louisiana Radio Network, Sokol says “That we have investigated, as possible severe adverse events, that might be related to the vaccine, among those only eleven have met the criteria of that we have established.”

Of those adverse reactions, Sokol says that none have resulted in death, and that most are typically an anaphylactic reaction to the vaccine.

Sokol continues by saying that they've also looked into reported cases of myocarditis, a heart condition, “And also, as well the sort of blood disorders, the thrombosis with thrombocytopenia. So those are included in our case definition.”

What About Guillain-Barre That's Been Associated With the Vaccine?

Another adverse reaction associated with the vaccine is Guillain-Barre, which can leave victims with muscle weakness or even paralysis.

It's Guillain-Barre that Representative Kenny Cox of Natchitoches has specifically asked State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter about, because his personal physician is wondering if that is what has impacted the Representative's own health.

Kanter says, “We’ve had one case of Guillain-Barre that has met our criteria for vaccine-related severe adverse events.”

Cox replied, “You have only one case, yeah, because I’m going to be tested.”
