A routine traffic stop quickly got out of hand for a Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's deputy last night.  43 year old Donald Collins is in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center today after he attempted to run from police after the deputy conducting the stop noticed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.  When Collins was instructed to get out of the vehicle, he floored it in an attempt to escape.  The deputy tried to physically remove Donald, but ended up being drug 100 feet before he could free himself from the car.  The officer fired 2 shots at the vehicles tires in an attempt to disable it, to no avail.  Mr. Collins was only able to muster a temporary escape as he crashed into another vehicle shortly afterwards where officers were able to apprehend him.

A search of his vehicle found various drugs and paraphernalia.  According to KTBS, Donald is currently being charged with:

  • Driving left of center
  • 2 counts possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Aggravated flight
  • Reckless operation
  • Following too close
  • Resisting an officer
  • Possession of schedule II
  • Possession of schedule IV
  • Simple kidnapping

Luckily, there were no reports of serious injuries.
