Should leggings not be a part of campus fashion at the University of Notre Dame? One mother of a student who attends classes at the private Catholic school believes that they most definitely should not. However, her protest seems to be having the opposite effect.

Maryann White was attending Mass with her sons on campus at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana recently. That's when she noticed a group of young women clad in the clingy, stretchy, form-fitting pants. Mrs. White thought that the leggings were not only inappropriate for mass but not appropriate for young women to be wearing on campus.

Mrs. White expressed her views on the subject in a letter to the editor that was published in the student newspaper at Notre Dame. However, her plea for young women to "think of the mothers of sons the next time you go shopping and consider choosing jeans instead" appears to have had an opposite effect on the student population.

According to reports, more than 1,000 students said that they planned on wearing leggings to class and on campus this week in response to Mrs. White's letter. In fact, one social media student group has called for a "Love Your Leggings Day" and they are encouraging all students, male and female, to wear leggings.

So, how do you feel about wearing leggings? I have to admit they look like they would be very comfortable. They also appear to be very fashionable as well. They also leave very little to the imagination.

Are they appropriate to wear to church? In my mind, that's between you and the Good Lord. I think our Higher Power would like to see us in church no matter how we're dressed. He wants to save our souls not keep us off Mr. Blackwell's list.

Personally, I don't think the Almighty would be too bothered by leggings since he knows what you look like without them anyway. But I also think the Almighty wants us to respect our mothers and fathers too.

Quite a conundrum isn't it?
