Gov. John Bel Edwards is in the nation's capital today pushing for additional assistance for flood relief.

On Thursday, Edwards will meet with the entire Louisiana congressional delegation to discuss the state’s flood relief package. In addition, he will meet with Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers, as well as Senate Appropriations Committee leaders to ask for additional assistance.

The first $438 million approved for Louisiana flood recovery assistance was approved with unprecedented disaster recovery speed -- two months after the August flood. The Edwards administration estimates Louisiana's total flood recovery need after the historic March and August floods to total more than $3.7 billion.

On Friday,  Edwards will attend the National Governor’s Association conference where he will sit on a panel with FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate to discuss being prepared on day one for newly elected governors.
