Just ten days ago Michael P. Ward was named commander of the U.S.S. Pittsburgh. A dream come true for the 43-year-old Naval officer. He has since been relieved of duty after his extra marital affair with a 23-year-old woman was made public. The same woman which he allegedly impregnated and faked his own death to end their relationship.

The woman, who at this point remains anonymous, claimed to The Day that the two met from an online dating site back in October of 2011. He told her that he was married and had children, but he was in the process of getting a divorce. He also told her that his name was Tony Moore. Later he came clean with his real name, but used the fact that he was in special ops for the need for the deception.

It was in July that the woman received an email from a "Bob" that supposedly worked with Ward informing her that he was dead.

"He asked me to contact you if this ever happened," the email says. "I am extremely sorry to tell you that he is gone. We tried everything we could to save him. I cannot say more. I am sorry it has to be this way."

Wanting to say her goodbyes the woman went to his home in Virgina, and was then informed that he was still very alive and living in Connecticut about to take command of the U.S.S. Pittsburgh.

Heartbroken, she became ill and was put in the hospital. It was then that she found out that she was pregnant and unfortunately lost her baby.

The woman's reason for coming forward was not for revenge. In an interview with The Day she said, ""I want everyone to know the truth about Michael. He does not need to be commanding a submarine. He's a deceitful man."

An investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is in progress and no further details will be released by the Navy until its completion.

At this time, Ward has been reassigned to administrative duties aboard a different ship. I'm sure this was not how he dreamed his career in the Navy would end up.
