New Covid Strain from India Found in Shreveport
A new variant of Covid-19 is found in Louisiana. The first 2 cases are found in Caddo Parish. Dr. Jeremy Kamil with LSU Health Shreveport says there are likely many other cases.
How serious is this strain of the virus? The World Health Organization reports this variant is believed to be more transmissible to others. But Dr. Kamil tells the Louisiana Radio Network the current COVID-19 vaccines are effective against this strain of the virus.
Dr. Kamil also adds that says this variant is not completely responsible for the alarming outbreak in India. He says the biggest problem is the low vaccine rate in India, especially in the larger cities.
