At a mid-morning news conference came word that a coalition of area fire department's decided to ban the sale and use of fireworks through the end of the month.

That coalition includes both the Shreveport and Bossier City Fire Departments, and the parishes of Bossier and Webster.  Representatives of each agency was present at the announcement.

For now, the ban is in effect through the end of June, with a reassesment planned by then for the remainder of the 4th of July Holiday season.

Caddo Parish is not a part of this group that has made this decision.  KVKI has sent a request for Caddo's stance on the issue, and is awaiting word back.

In the news conference, Shreveport Fire Chief Brian Crawford contended that the drought conditions we're experiencing here in Northwest Louisiana make it unsafe to use fireworks, at this time.
