There are just hours left in the month of August for this year as we write this. So far, the city of Shreveport has made is almost a full 31 days in the month without a single homicide in the city. That's a metric that shouldn't be as shocking as it is, but here we are.

The last recorded homicide in the city of Shreveport was recorded on July 6th, 2022. So the city has already gone a month without a killing, and achieved that a few weeks back. But as far as a calendar month without a killing, we have to make it to midnight to achieve that.

Well, unless you count one particular incident....

Back on Thursday, August 18th, Shreveport Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound behind the wheel of a crashed vehicle on the Red River Bridge of I-20. The vehicle was on the downhill side of the Westbound lane when his vehicle came to rest. The victim in the shooting did die as a result of the gunshot wound.

During the investigation, I-20 was shutdown all the way back to the Industrial Drive exit in Bossier City, and even though the victim was from Shreveport, discovered by Shreveport Police, and he succumbed to his injuries in a Shreveport hospital, the homicide is being treated as a Bossier City killing.

The suspect was arrested by Bossier City Police, booked into the Bossier City Jail, and will be charged in Bossier Parish.

Due to this homicide being treated as a Bossier City homicide, it doesn't register as a killing in Shreveport, or Caddo Parish. Which means that Shreveport remains without a homicide since July 6th, 2022.

Of course, like we stated already, there are still hours left in this month. So all of this could change before the month ends. But we hope it doesn't.
