Part of Mike Wood Park in Bossier City is closed as a precaution after a recent inspection determined that a large pecan tree must be removed before limbs from the tree possibly fall.

Inspectors found internal rot and decay. A local tree company has determined the tree must be taken down.

The tree currently leans toward the playground and the quadrangle at the rear of the park, both have been barricaded off as a precaution to keep park visitors out of that area.

The area will remain closed until the tree can safely be removed.  Due to ongoing road repairs at the park, it may take up to two weeks for crews to remove the tree. Crews will be using a large, heavy crane to remove the tree. The repairs to the road have to be finished before the large piece of equipment can be moved into the park.
