The activists at PETA have struck again, this time putting a beloved childhood snack in their cross-hairs.   Nabisco's Barnum's Animal Crackers have drawn the ire of the extreme animal rights group for their depiction of animals in their respective riding in an old-school circus train car.  The design is a call back to the time circuses traveled from town to town via wagons, and later, trains.

PETA's complaint is that the artwork depicts the animals in cages, conditions that the organization deems unacceptable.  According to a letter from PETA, obtained by CBS News, they had this to say:

Given the egregious cruelty inherent in circuses that use animals and the public's swelling opposition to the exploitation of animals used for entertainment, we urge Nabisco to update its packaging in order to show animals who are free to roam in their natural habitats,"

Nabisco has responded by re-designing the packaging to show a variety of animals standing together on the Savannah.

From a zoological standpoint, the new artwork is a bit off.  Gorillas live in the jungle.
