President Obama Will Visit South Louisiana on Tuesday

Air Force One will land in Baton Rouge tomorrow as President Barack Obama is set to visit Baton Rouge Tuesday to tour the flooded southern part of our state. Federal disaster declarations have been made in several South Louisiana parishes.

The President is planning to meet some thousands of people involved in the federal aid request.

Governor John Bel Edwards has made it clear he wanted the President to delay the trip until after the initial disaster response ended so early recovery efforts can go unimpeded.

Many have voiced concerns over the impact that will likely result from the security detail required during a presidential visit on already strained roads. Vice President Joe Biden's recent visit to attend a memorial service for three fallen law enforcement officers saw hours of interstate delays even after the memorial procession had concluded.

The White House lashed out at critics today who claimed the President has been slow to respond to the tragedy facing residents impacted by the floods:

“They’ve got to find something to criticize the president about,” said White House press secretary Josh Earnest. He said although Mr. Obama was on the links during the flooding, “the president was focused on the federal response.”
