Many retail chains in the U.S. have been struggling to make a comeback after the pandemic that sent sales spiraling downward and shopping habits changing for many Americans. Retail giants have had to pivot to set up plans to meet the demands of online shopping with local pickup as shoppers avoided going into stores during the height of the Covid pandemic.

Bed Bath and Beyond has been struggling to turn things around in an effort to keep some of its stores open. But KEEL News has learned the Shreveport store on Youree Drive is one of the latest stores on the chopping block.

The southeast Shreveport store has posted signs declaring a "liquidation sale".

Some shoppers exiting the store didn't realize it was closing, but the signs on the front door say "all sales final and no checks." I called the store and asked if they were closing and was told "yes we are closing for good." I asked when the store was closing and she said they don't have a definite date.

The home goods chain is trying to turn things around to keep some stores open. But sales are down 30-40% at many locations.

The plan right now is to try to keep 360 Bed Bath & Beyond stories open. The company announced plans a year ago to close nearly 500 stores. But the Shreveport store was not on that list. The Bossier City store was on the chopping block early on and that store has closed.

We asked if they were still accommodating online shopping with curbside pickup and the representative at the Shreveport store told me they were no longer taking curbside pickup orders. This leads me to believe they are already working with limited staff in an effort to trim costs during the liquidation process.

Once the reorganization is complete, the company will be about half the size it was prior to the recent troubles.
