The office of Shreveport's City Attorney has issued a statement regarding the Fourth of July arrest of Shreveport City Councilwoman Levette Fuller. Just after 2am on July 4th, Fuller was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Texting While Driving.

Today, Shreveport City Attorney Mekisha Smith Creal announced that she is declaring a conflict of interest in this case. The press release says:

"The Shreveport City Attorney represents the City Council and serves as the Chief Prosecutor in City Court. These dual responsibilities create the potential for conflicts of interest between the City of Shreveport and its officials.

In the case of City Councilwoman LeVette Fuller, these responsibilities conflict. Therefore, City Attorney Mekisha Smith Creal is declaring a conflict of interest in the case of Councilwoman Fuller. The City Attorney will respectfully request that the matter be transferred to District Court, where the District Attorney will serve as the prosecuting office."
