Shreveport Leases Local Park to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

I have fond memories of this park as a child... but that was before it started flooding consistently... C. Bickham Dickson Park has always been gorgeous, but I spent a lot of time there during my younger years at the horse stables, first going on trail rides, then taking lessons, competing and more. In fact, when my family moved to Ohio in 1990, we left our show jumps at C. Bickham Dickson. I'm pretty sure with all of the flooding, they're long gone now.

It seems the park located off of E. Bert Kouns in Shreveport has been closed more than it's been open in recent years due to flooding, which is a shame because it features a boat launch, an equestrian trail and fishing, and picnic areas. It's also the largest park in the city.

However, the park is getting a new lease on life because yesterday, the Shreveport City Council okayed the park to be leased to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service yesterday, Tuesday, July 9, 2019, where it'll become a part of the Red River National Wildlife Refuge.  The purpose of the refuge is to conserve America's fish, wildlife, and plants.

The lease of the park to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is projected to help save the City of Shreveport money in upkeep, etc...
