Unofficial 10 Commandments for the Krewe of Centaur Parade
The Krewe of Centaur is one of the biggest Mardi Gras Krewes in Louisiana, outside of New Orleans. The Krewe of Centaur parade draws hundreds of thousands of revelers to Shreveport during an average year.
This year's Centaur parade rolls on Saturday, February 22nd at 3:30pm.
The weather forecasts keep jumping around; one hour it says rain on Saturday, then 60 minutes later it says no rain, then it does it again. The temperatures for Saturday have been wild too...some forecasts say low-40s, and others will say upper-50s. That might not seem like a big deal, until you're sitting out there for a bit.
But no matter what, the Krewe of Centaur rolls. That's been a common theme on social media around Shreveport this week, as Krewe members share various forms of the following details/instructions.
As we've been watching these threads get posted, we thought we could boil them down to 10 simple rules/guidelines/recommendations/commandments. This isn't an "official" list from the Krewe or the City of Shreveport, but some of these details include rules that those two groups do enforce.
If you're going to the parade, keep these in mind:
1) The Krewe of Centaur always rolls, rain or shine
2) If you want a Specialty Bead, the best way to get them is to come to our Float Loading Party on February 21st at 5:00! We don’t throw a lot of these, because they will break if they hit the ground…
3) Stand back away from the floats. We are instructed to throw to the back of the crowd for safety reasons.
4) Please keep an eye on your kiddos… Nobody wants an accident.
5) Don’t set up in a No Throw Zone. The city will pull our float if we throw to you in a No Throw Zone. They are marked on the parade route.
6) Have fun, drink responsibly, and pace yourself! It’s a marathon, not a sprint! LOL! Lyft/Uber home if you need to…
7) Please don’t throw anything at anybody on a float. We aren’t prepared for it and with the lights we can't see it coming toward us.
8) Roads do close for this parade, and they close early. So plan accordingly.
9) Someone DOES have to clean up after you. Please take care of your trash.
10) Have a fantastic time! The Krewe of Centaur loves our community and wants everyone to have a blast. Be kind to each other!
Bring the family out, and make sure you have some extra hats and gloves this weekend!
