A Shreveport police officer faces serious trouble today. 24-year-old Tyler Potter is on leave after his arrest on DWI charges early Sunday morning.

Potter allegedly drove his private car off the road on Lola Lane just before 3am Sunday morning. The car his a utility pole. Potter was not hurt.

Potter apparently admitted to drinking five beers prior to the wreck. The arrest report shows he blew a .170 at the time of the accident.

He was arrested at 4 a.m. Sunday at the Police Department then booked into the Shreveport City Jail at 5:57 a.m. the same day on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, booking records show.

Police Chief Ben Raymond issued this statement:

“Shreveport Police Officer Tyler Potter was arrested for suspicion of DWI earlier this morning while our officers were investigating a single-vehicle crash in which he was involved. He will be placed on departmental leave pending further investigation. As with anyone facing criminal charges, Officer Potter will be considered innocent until proven guilty. A full administrative inquiry into the incident will take place following the criminal investigation.”
