Shreveport Police Chief Alan Crump will be back on the job on Wednesday. Chief Crump and Lieutenant Matt Prunty have been cleared in an investigation where the two officers discharged firearms while in pursuit of suspects on October 30th.

The Mayor's office issued a statement saying "The District Attorney’s Office conducted a review of the investigation and determined there were no grounds for action against either officer. Chief Crump will return to his full duties on Wednesday, November 8.

The Mayor's statement adds:

Although there was no administrative discipline involved in his leave, Mayor Ollie Tyler placed the Chief on leave to maintain full transparency. Policy does not require officers to be placed on departmental leave under such circumstances. However, because Chief Crump is the head of the department, Mayor Tyler thought it appropriate to take this action to allow for a full and thorough investigation without the perception of influence from the Chief.

At the time the Chief was placed on paid leave, the Mayor issued this statement:

No one was injured from the discharge of his weapon. “Our Police Chief demonstrated his willingness to actively take part in combating crime and putting his life on the line alongside his fellow officers,” said Mayor Tyler. “Policy does not require officers to be placed on departmental leave under such circumstances; however, because he is the head of this department, it is appropriate to take this action to allow for a full and thorough investigation.”

KEEL News spoke with Chief Crump earlier this year about the crime problem in our community. He talked about ways to combat crime and get back to basic family values:

Questions have been raised surrounding the incident, but the District Attorneys Office has found no wrongdoing on the part of the officers.

Earlier this month, KEEL spoke with City Councilwoman Stephanie Lynch about the chief and the crime problem in our city:
