It was 1997 when Shreveport native Kenny Wayne Shepherd first topped the charts with Blue on Black, and now the song is finding new success 22 years later!

Blue on Black was on the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band's second studio album Trouble Is... and spent 42 weeks on the chart, hitting number for six non-consecutive weeks.

Now, here we are, over two decades later, and the song is finding striking a chord for the band Five Finger Death Punch. The remake came out on their 2018 release And Justice for None... but it wasn't until the music video hit April 11, 2019 that the cover exploded!

The song is currently sitting at 14 on the US Active Rock chart according to All Access and is the second most downloaded song in our area. Check out the original and the cover and let us know what you think.

So what's Shreveport's blues guitarist great doing these days? Making music, of course! He's busy on tour this summer promoting his new album, The Traveler, which drops May 31st. You can preorder the release here.

Keep shredding and making us proud Kenny!
