'Sliders' at gas stations, a trending news story that women everywhere should be aware of today. 'Sliders' target women who are at a gas station pumping gas, take only seconds and most women don't realize they're been a victim until it's too late.

Here's how they work: a slider sneaks up to the passenger side of the woman's car, crouches down low and opens the passenger door. Then the thief grabs her purse, money, cell phone or anything else of value on the front seat of the car. They slide in and out, below eye level of the door, which is why they are referred to as 'sliders'.

The slider is long gone by the time the woman is finished pumping gas, but by then her valuables long gone, too. Police are warning everyone to lock your doors while they pump gas, which, surprisingly, is something most people don't do. The reason women are targeted by these criminals is because they carry a purse and most leave that purse on the passenger seat next to them.

While 'sliders' are starting to make national headlines, police point out these criminals aren't looking for a confrontation. They want the goods and they want a clean getaway. So, women everywhere, keep an eye on your surroundings - and your belongings - next time you're a gas station
