The flu bug has invaded Northwest Louisiana and as scores of kids flood the offices of our pediatricians, school officials are left with some big decisions.  Continue to expose the remaining few unaffected students, or call a time out on the play and try to get the bug out of the school?

Late yesterday, Caddo Parish School Superintendent, Dr. T. Lamar Goree, elected the latter, and has officially closed Jack. P. Timmons Elementary School today, Wednesday, January 30, and tomorrow, Thursday, January 31.

Timmons has been the hardest hit in the area and due to a large number of families reporting student absences attributed to the flu and flu-like symptoms, administrators felt this was necessary to disinfect the campus, to hopefully prevent further illness.

The Timmons custodial team will spend these two days undergoing extensive sanitation efforts to combat the spread of germs. Additionally, it will be of vital importance that  families not allow students to return to school until they have been fever free for a minimum of 24 hours. Officials also encourage parents to take this opportunity to clean all students’ personal items such as backpacks, jackets and lunchboxes.

The campus will reopen Friday.
