The Shreveport VA hospital is postponing some elective surgeries and non-emergency procedures beginning Monday. This will be determined on a case by case basis. Not all surgeries are being delayed. Patients will be contacted if there is a delay.

You should also know that all out-patient/primary care clinic visits, including specialty care services, are being evaluated for virtual care via VA Video Connect or Telehealth options.

These changes come after the Louisiana Department of Health confirmed the presence of the COVID-19 coronavirus in Shreveport. The local VA issued this statement:

If you feel you have been exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms like those on the CDC website, do not go to the hospital. Instead, call for instructions:
318-990-5000
800-644-8370
In addition to calling first, consider using virtual care options such as telehealth or My HealtheVet Secure Messaging. Visitors, if you do not feel well, please postpone your visit. Consider using VA’s telehealth and virtual care options like VA Video Connect. VA’s telehealth providers can evaluate their symptoms and provide a diagnosis and comprehensive care. https://telehealth.va.gov/type/home
