Zion Williamson ‘Excited’ About Coming To New Orleans, Has No Plans To Return To Duke
Maybe the talking heads on the major sports networks have at all wrong.
If you listen to the major networks you would be made to believe Zion Williamson hates the idea of playing in New Orleans so much that returning to college or sitting out for an entire year would be a better option. According to his stepfather, that couldn't be any farther from the truth.
NOLA.com is reporting that Lee Anderson (Zion's stepfather) says that Williamson has no plans to return to Duke for his sophomore season—and contrary to popular belief, is excited about the idea of playing for the Pelicans in New Orleans. Anderson spoke with The Off The Bench radio show earlier today on 104.5 in Baton Rouge and revealed that Zion is,
excited about the prospect of getting down there and settled. We’re excited about (New Orleans). One thing that Zion has always been taught is to accept the things that you can’t change and change the things that you can change. This is one of the things that he had nothing to do with. This is the process of the NBA.
Anderson went on to say that Zion has "relayed similar sentiments" to the Pelicans brass, including head coach Alvin Gentry director of operations David Griffin. Ever since the Pelicans scored the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft lottery speculation on his intentions have run wild on the internet as well as every sports show in America.
According to the NOLA.com report, Zion has yet to sign an agent or ink any type of sponsorship deal. For what it's worth, Williamson's college eligibility is also still intact and he has until June 10 to pull his name from draft consideration.
But again, to quote his stepfather,
About returning to Duke, there has been a lot of speculation, but that is not something that we have even considered.
