2015 Junior Cyber Discovery Winners Announced

The world of underwater robotics was featured at Bossier Instructional Center this past week, as middle school students participated in Junior Cyber Discovery.

This is a program offered through Bossier Parish Schools and the Cyber Innovation Center's National Integrated Cyber Education Research Center. Schools in the competition were Cope, Benton, Elm Grove, Greenacres, Haughton, Plain Dealing and Rusheon.

The week-long day camp included an extensive professional development component for middle school teachers and a dynamic, hands-on curriculum for their students. The program engages the kids in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through robotics and interactive discussions on the impact of STEM on their daily lives.

This year's curriculum featured a scenario in which a cyber-attack has taken down a satellite orbiting earth and caused it to crash deep into the ocean.

The final cyber challenge was held this past Saturday. Cope Middle School went home with 1st-place honors. Haughton and T.O. Rusheon finished 2nd and 3rd. We congratulate all the teams for a job well done!
