Don’t call it a comeback. No, really — you may think that ’90s darling Alicia Silverstone hasn’t been doing much acting in recent years, and while that’s partially true, you just haven’t been looking in the right places. The actress appears to be choosing more interesting roles as of late, and after recently appearing in the James Franco festival fave King Cobra, she’s turned her sights to one of our most compelling modern filmmakers: Yorgos Lanthimos.

Deadline reports that Silverstone has joined The Killing of a Sacred Deer, the new psychological drama from the director of The Lobster and Dogtooth. Colin Farrell, who led the former, will reunite with Lanthimos for his latest effort, which also stars Nicole Kidman, Bill Camp (seen most recently on HBO’s The Night Of) and Raffey Cassidy (Tomorrowland).

The Killing of a Sacred Deer stars Farrell as “a charismatic surgeon forced to make an unthinkable sacrifice after his life starts to fall apart when the behavior of a teenager he has taken under his wing turns sinister.” Silverstone has been cast as the mother of the teen boy, played by ’71 star Barry Keoghan. Kidman will play Farrell’s wife.

Lanthimos co-wrote the new project with screenwriting partner Efthymis Filippou. A24 picked up the rights to distribute the film domestically when they acquired the rights to The Lobster at Cannes back in May — hardly surprising, as the company has become well-known for distributing some of the best and most interesting indie films. This year alone, A24 has released The Witch, Swiss Army Man and Green Room. Their upcoming films include highly-anticipated titles like Moonlight and Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire.
