Billy Ray Cyrus has successfully tackled a recording career, multiple television series roles and a big-screen movie career — so what is the logical next move for the 50-year-old entertainer? Broadway, of course! The superstar will join the cast of the long-running fan-favorite ‘Chicago’ as the ethically-challenged lawyer Billy Flynn beginning this November.

“I love acting, and I’m always up for learning new things,” Cyrus says of his new gig, according to USA Today. Cyrus was unfamiliar with the popular stage show until he was invited by show producers to attend a showing last year. At the time, John O’Hurley portrayed Flynn.

Speaking about O’Hurley’s performance, Cyrus says, “His performance was so brilliant, and I fell in love with this character. He’s got a lot of heart and soul, but he’s got an agenda, too. I like that contradiction.”

Equally as inspiring for Cyrus was Richard Gere’s big-screen adaptation of the famous role. “I’m probably going to borrow from both performances — but make it my own, as they say in this business,” says the singer.

But Cyrus admits he’s got a big job ahead of him. “I get a little nervous thinking about it,” he says, clarifying, “Maybe a lot nervous.”

The ‘Achy Breaky Heart‘ hitmaker is set to make his Broadway debut on Nov. 5, and will continue his run through Dec. 23. Aside from his new side gig, the entertainer will also return to the medium that first made him famous, with a new album expected to be released in October.

Tentatively titled ‘Change My Mind,’ the project will push the sonic boundaries of country music. ”It’s got some killer Southern rock,” Cyrus describes. One confirmed song title is ‘That’s What Daddys Do,’ a duet with daughter Noah.

Also on Cyrus’ to-do list is a world tour and the release of his autobiography, ‘Hillbilly Heart,’ which he hopes to have out in April 2013.
