Louisiana Governor, John Bel Edwards, recently addressed the state with the proposed budget cut that involves the possible elimination of TOPS (The Taylor Opportunity Program for Students - a scholarship program which covers tuition for in-state students who meet certain academic criteria) and it has a lot of people up in arms.

With all of the uproar, Cory and I decided to gather some information that could be helpful to parents of students in or going to college.

We contacted Jan Moller, Director of Louisiana Budget Project ( a non-profit organization that monitors and reports on public policy and how it affects Louisiana’s low- to moderate-income families) to help explain what is going on in Baton Rouge. Jan is an award-winning journalist formerly with the New Orleans Times-Picayune’s state capital bureau, where he covered the state budget, health-care policy, higher education and races for Louisiana governor and U.S. Senate seats.
