‘Duets’ Judges Entertain With ‘Let Me Entertain You’ Opener
The first episode of ‘Duets‘ opened with a rousing rendition of ‘Let Me Entertain You’ by the judges. Did they succeed?
Well, duh. Kelly Clarkson and Robin Thicke opened the performance, belting to one another. Jennifer Nettles joined in shortly after, followed by John Legend. The judges seemed to be trying to outdo one another while simultaneously harmonizing together. The visuals were just as effective as the audio: Clarkson and Legend both wore black, while Nettles and Thicke donned splashes of red. The coordination, planned or not, was adorable.
The judges have done a pretty good job at hyping their project. Legend talked a little trash about his ‘X Factor‘ judging rivals, telling reporters, “It’s interesting when people, you know, who are judging singing competitions when they aren’t really singers. It’s interesting.” Tell us how you really feel!
Clarkson told press why she signed onto ‘Duets’ and not any other competition show — even though she’s the first ‘American Idol‘ champ. “ABC approached me at an awards show and they sold it to me as an awards show,” Clarkson said. “Basically the best parts (of awards shows) are collaborations … I think those are the best parts of the shows and I love that they have based a whole show on that, the collaborative process.”
The performance, as with the rest of the episode, was pretaped. The competition will begin to go live on June 28 for the last four episodes, with the winner receiving a record deal from Hollywood Records.
