Great Festivals On The Way

It is springtime which means festival time around the world. And I was checking out some of the oddest ones.

The Wife Carrying World Championship is in July in Finland. 

This is a highly competitive event and couples come from around the world to take part in this bizarre competition.  The winners get cash and the pride of the title.

Don't know if I can say this or not, but they have what's called the "Testicle Festival" in Missoula, Montana in August.

This festival feeds over 2.5 tons of deep fried bull testicles to its many hungry revellers. There is also a bull-chip throwing contest, a wet T-shirt competition and a hairy chest competition.

The Cheese Rolling Festival is next month in Great Brittain

This popular festival involves hundreds of contestants chasing a roll of cheese down the steep, muddy Coopers Hill in Gloucestershire.

 Here are my 3 favorite festivals in our area:

Red River Revel  October 6-13.  If you love live music, don't miss the Revel.  There's also a great area for the kids and the best food.  But the art is well worth the trip to the Revel.

Sunflower Trail Days in Gilliam on Saturday June 2nd.  Nothing is more beautiful to me than the thousands of Sunflowers in full bloom in this small town north of Shreveport. 

The Annual Sunflower Trail & Festival features sunflowers planted along Highway 3049. They are in peak bloom the last two weeks of June. The Sunflower Festival features local crafts, entertainment, art displays, and food.

Hope Watermelon Festival Thursday August 9th-Saturday August 11th.

estival celebrating Hope's giant watermelons, includes arts & crafts, watermelon eating, seed spitting, watermelon weigh-in, headline entertainment, and ice-cold Hope watermelon sold by the slice. I love this fruit and the short drive to Hope is well worth the great music and food that is available during this historic festival.

The Zwolle Tamale Festival in October (this one's a blast)

No Fiesta is complete without delicious tamales!! Each year, tamales can be purchased at the Zwolle Tamale Fiesta, one at a time or by the dozen. Also, a tamale-making contest is just one part of the Fiesta.

Fire Ant Festival In Marshall, Texas in October

The Fire Ant Festival is famous for its fire ant calling contest; rubber chicken chunking; gurning (ugly face-making); a diaper derby, and a men's Crazy Legs contest.
