Most folks think of snails as garden pests, but cosmeticians in Japan have found a new use for the slimy creatures: The latest beauty treatment.

Live snails, being hailed as an elixir for healthy and beautiful skin, are the latest craze at spas all over Japan.

The 'treatment' involves placing live snails directly onto the faces of clients. They crawl over the skin at random, leaving a trail of mucus in their wake.

The snail's mucus supposedly contains proteins, antioxidants and acids which help the skin retain moisture, exfoliate and reduce inflammation.

The entire treatment lasts about an hour and costs about 24,000 yen, or around $250. Would you get a snail facial treatment?
