A holiday weekend turned tragic for one Natchitoches family who lost everything when their house burned to the ground Sunday morning.

Natchitoches fire officials were called to the home of Matthew and Sarah Axsom and their two younger children in the 300 block of Canaan Place at 8:55 a.m. on Sunday, May 29. Firefighters from Natchitoches Parish fire districts 1, 4, 5, and 6 arrived to the home already fully involved in the blaze. They fought the fire with everything they had, but the wood-framed house burned too quickly for the fire crews to stop it.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire.

The Axsom's older children have made a GoFundMe Page to try to help with their parents' devastating loss. As they say on the page, the loss just doesn't just involve a house.

Hello, our names are Josh, Steve, Andrew, John, Kalo, Benjamin, and Silas Axsom. Our parents, Matthew and Sarah Axsom, and our younger siblings Travis and AnnaLaura lost everything in a house fire yesterday, Sunday the 29th of May.

They did not have any insurance and the loss is complete. Only the slab is left. To make matters worse, our parents had cashed out and had their entire retirement present in the house, so the loss is truly catastrophic.

The older brothers say their parents, even in the face of such loss, would never ask for help. They set up the GoFundMe page knowing that some folks are asking how they can.

This was our childhood home, everything our parents had. Just the fact that so many of you have asked how you can help has been so encouraging. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for our parents and siblings at this time.

They have a $50,000 goal set, of which, at the time of this writing, over $10,000 has been donated.
