The new YMCA of Northwest Louisiana celebrates its grand opening on Saturday, April 8th.  The new "Y" is located at 3455 Knight Street off of Clyde Fant Parkway in Shreveport.  The BHP Billiton YMCA is a fitness and aquatic center that houses a gymnasium, state-of-the-art exercise equipment, group exercise studios, an indoor family pool, and a 50-meter competition pool that is able to host local, regional, and state events.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, BHP Billiton is the world's largest mining company which opened petroleum field operations in Shreveport in 2012.  The company's donation of $10.7 million made the new YMCA possible.

The Grand Opening Celebration begins tomorrow morning at 8:00 and is free and open to the public.  There'll be giveaways including membership raffles, tours, and free class passes.  Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler will present a special proclamation which will be followed by a ribbon cutting.
