You probably won't see much about this until next year, but according to Discovery magazine there is an asteroid hurdling through space toward Earth. Yep, but it isn't the threat some people are claiming it to be...not at least until 2040. Don't worry, because it may not even be a threat even then.  It is called 2011 AG5 and most likely it won’t be much of an issue.

What will be interesting asteroid 2011 AG5 are low, but not easily dismissed. If it passes us at just the right distance in 2023, it should be visible from earth and then it will be back again and impact the Earth in 2040. At this point, all we know is that is exists and here's are some pictures.

The reason I mentioned that we probably won't hear much about this until 2013 is that won't be close enough to us to know how close it will come to actually hitting the Earth. It is interesting to note that there is an asteroid expert is saying that waiting until 2013 is a bad idea: we should start analyzing a possible deflection campaign for this rock now. I will say, that the movie Armageddon may have been a bit late (though Bruce Willis did save the world), so let's get our space program back in working order and moving on the initial analysis now is not such a bad idea.
