It's no joke, beginning April 1st folks here in Louisiana will pay one to two cents more per serving of alcohol as our state tax on booze jumps from 14th highest in the nation to somewhere near the top ten. The tax increase, which is permanent and has no expiration date, is expected to bring in $5 million dollars between April 1st and June 30th alone. John Williams, Executive Director of the Beer Industry League of Louisiana, (I had no idea there even was such a job. Feel I may have missed my calling), said the new tax will especially hurt the state's blossoming brewery industry. "They are all going to pay it. There's no exemptions for any of the manufacturers for the state excise tax.", said Williams, adding that consumers will feel the pinch to their wallets immediately as retailers decide whether to take the hit or raise their prices. In a state where you can get a license to cordon off your block and get falling down drunk in your front yard, I'm guessing consumers will shrug it off and pony up.  Cheers!
