Local businesses are offering military personnel at least a 10% discount this holiday season.

“We’ve identified over 150 businesses that offer at least a 10% discount and some much more than that for food, entertainment, education, lodging, and retail,” Bossier Chamber of Commerce Military Liaison Andy Thomson stated.

The discounts also range from stores and shopping to even services like oil changes.

“I have 30 years in the Air Force and I have been in a lot of bases in a lot of places, but nowhere have I seen the working relationship better between the military and the civilian sector as right here in the Bossier-Shreveport area,” Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker commented.

This is the first year the Preferred Military Discount Directory will be in digital form, making it easier to find military-friendly retailers in the Shreveport-Bossier area.

The print directory was launched in the fall of 2011 as a resource to help military members find local businesses who offer discounts.

307th Bomb Wing Commander Colonel Jon Ellis spoke of the importance of maintaining a strong community:

Reserve members recognize the opportunities the local community affords them; it offers them more of a chance to thrive and excel.  It’s imperative for us to take care of our people’s needs and to keep them a top priority.  All you do shows that our Airmen are also a top priority for you and our community.  Thank you for your continued support to everyone in uniform.

It is also good for business.

“Everyone in business wants to do their best, whether it’s bowling, selling a burger, or providing services,” Holiday Lanes Marketing Executive Robin Williams said.  “And of course, we want to honor the military.  But again, I say it’s just good business.  I think I speak for many businesses in Bossier and Shreveport when I say we love the military and we want them to be active customers in our businesses.”

The directory can be reached at  There, military personnel can see the discounts available at a broad range of area retailers.  Businesses interested in being included in the directory can submit their information on the website as well.
