Good news for the riverboats in Shreveport Bossier.

The local gambling boats were the biggest wiiners in the state for August. The six riverboat casinos and the slots at the Harrah’s racetrack brought in $71.2 million. That is a 6.4 percent increase over August of 2013. The big winner is the Horseshoe Casino which brought in more than 20 million last month, compared to 16.7 million in July and about 18 million in August of last year.

The news is not so good in other parts of the state.

Baton Rouge’s three riverboat casinos brought in slightly more money in August than the year before. The riverboats brought in just over $24.4 million in August, compared with just over $24.3 million in August 2013, a 0.4 percent gain.

Statewide, the 14 riverboats, four racetrack casinos and Harrah’s land-based casino brought in nearly $217.8 million in August, 1.2 percent better than the $215.1 million last year. The New Orleans casino market is down 2.5 percent for the month to $52.9 million.
