As SNL brings its summer Weekend Update to a close, we have our first official Season 43 host. Hide your replicants, as Blade Runner 2049 star and returning guest Ryan Gosling will host the late September premiere, joined by an iconic New York musical guest.

The actor’s been on something of a roll recently, scoring critical plaudits for The Nice Guys and La La Land last year — the latter of which ended up a surprise blockbuster and less-surprise Oscar hoarder — and continuing on into 2017 with this past spring’s Song to Song. He’s got Blade Runner 2049 on the docket for this fall, a likely smash that may earn him admiration among nerd circles, the last niche demographic he has not yet charmed. But with the world at his feet, Gosling’s now making moves to dash all the goodwill he’s recently built up.

With Wonder Woman already a big hit with critics and a global blockbuster in the making  —  early projections suggest the film could earn as much as $95 million domestically in its opening weekend  —  now is the perfect time for Jenkins to start blowing the dust off some of the films she couldn’t get made before she was a big-time superhero director. The full trailer for Blade Runner 2049 arrives on Monday, but the latest teaser of said trailer is available now and it is ... well it is short. It’s just 15 seconds. But there is some cool stuff in that 15 seconds. Maybe not enough to justify having a separate teaser, but cool stuff all the same, including some new shots of Ryan Gosling’s character and an old shot of Harrison Ford’s character, Rick Deckard.

With the Oscars over and done with, awards season has officially reached its merciful end here in the States. Now, to rest for another three and a half weeks before feverish predictions for next year’s Academy Awards contenders can begin. But over in Germany, the festivities have not yet concluded — last week, the prestigious Goldene Kamera awards recognized the finest talents in film and television, from within the Deutschland and beyond. The ceremony was well-stocked with international celebrities, including Jane Fonda, Nicole Kidman, and a very special appearance from Ryan Gosling.

The signature image of Damien Chazelle’s La La Land — the one that adorns all of its posters and trailers, and this post as well — is of its two stars, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, dancing in the hills of Los Angeles. It’s a striking visual: Gosling in his dark wool (not polyester) suit, Stone in her canary yellow dress, each with one arm pointed skyward behind them and the other crossed and pointing to the ground. In this single pose, they’ve essentially diagrammed their characters’ entire journeys over the course of the film: They come from different worlds, meet, and send each others’ lives careening off in new directions, with the city of Los Angeles serving as the glittering backdrop to their romance.

We have not one, but two new Blade Runner 2049 rumors today, both of which may reveal some interesting details about Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic.
