Aerial Photograph of Lake Charles Shows a Sea of Blue Roof Tarps

Early August 27, Hurricane Laura made landfall near Cameron, Louisiana leaving behind a path of destruction to Southwest Louisiana. With maximum sustained winds of 150 mph, higher in gusts, Laura will go down in history as being one of the most powerful hurricanes to strike the Louisiana coast.

Lake Charles continues to struggle to get back on its feet. As with New Orleans after Katrina, rebuilding will take years. However, there's a difference in how the national media covered Lake Charles and the devastation left behind by Hurricane Laura. A few days after Laura made landfall, the national media was nowhere to be found. Lake Charles isn't as sexy and popular as New Orleans. That's really a shame.

And serves as a reminder that Lake Charles still needs a helping hand, as the state braces for yet another Hurricane due later in the week.
