The start of this week has been brutally cold for this Washington, D.C. native. I lived in Arkansas during my high school years, but I can't remember a cold snap comparable to this one except for December 1983. If memory serves, the Shreveport area did not get above freezing for 138 straight hours, from December 21-27. Christmas Day '83 was the COLDEST I could remember, with a low about 6 degrees!

One of the really crazy things I remember was watching people walking(and riding ATV's!) on the frozen Red River. Also, the water pipes in my apartment on Centenary Boulevard froze and burst, so I had no running water for well over a week! Brutal! As far as I'm concerned at this point, spring can't get here fast enough!
