Bristol’s Brain: How Do We Know How It Identifies?
These are the random thoughts that keep me awake at night... My friend Jean, who has a pet rescue here locally, was telling me about an upcoming intake she's expecting soon and it has me perplexed. The pup is a hermaphrodite.
Now, at this time, we don't know if it was born with a complete and/or partial combination of male and female reproductive organs, but she was told by the person who owns the dog currently that their local vet recommended that when the dog was old enough, that it be altered surgically to be a girl.
Clearly, I don't have a degree in Veterinary science. Maybe it's easier to assign the pup female parts? But, how do we know which sex this dog wants to be? It's not like it can tell us how it identifies.
Is this poor dog going to have to be spayed AND neutered? I have so many questions! Like how is it going to pee? Will it squat or will it hike its leg? Will it automatically be the runt of the litter? Will the other dogs bully it or will they just accept it for what it is?
All I know is that Jean called the local vet she uses to tell him about her incoming charge, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for the conversation!
