Don't be surprised as you tool around the Ark-La-Tex, prisoner to orange barrels, barn swallows, and 'the land where turn signals go to die', to  see a new billboard or two. Sensible Marijuana Policy for Louisiana has launched a bill board campaign here and in Baton Rouge urging citizens to contact their representatives and let them know they support medical marijuana. SMPL spokesperson Jacob Irving says if you don't make an effort, lawmakers will assume you don't care.

The billboard features someone I've written about before, a mother who has stood before state lawmakers to plead her case. Katie Corkern's son Conner has a seizure disorder and takes six FDA approved drugs that A: do NOTHING for his seizures and B: are destroying his body, and says, "I want lawmakers to understand that this medical marijuana oil is so much more beneficial than the medications that they talk about."

In fact, some of these 'medications' kill. Alan Pesch, whose son suffers from Crohn's disease, says the medicine his son is currently taking CAN CAUSE CANCER! His prayer is that this legislation passes and Louisiana becomes a state where other frustrated and frightened parents can bring their children for treatment. "Instead of us fleeing Louisiana, we need our support groups, our families, our friends, and if this is done right, I don't see why people wouldn't be willing to relocate to Louisiana.", he adds.

The bill is scheduled to be debated on the House floor today.
