1 Million without Power as Hurricane Ida Slams in Louisiana

More than 1 million Louisiana residents are without power as Hurricane Ida roared ashore with devastating winds and storm surge. All of Orleans Parish including the city of New Orleans are without power.

The storm is now moving north through the state knocking out power in her path.

Ida made landfall Sunday as a Category 4 Hurricane, one of the strongest storms to ever hit our state. One of the biggest concerns now is how will the levees hold up? Residents of Plaquemine Parish were told to evacuate immediately when one levee failed leading to widespread flooding.

Governor John Bel Edwards says:

There’s going to be devastating impact. We have to do everything we can to save lives and we’ll get to the property damage later. But I can tell you for several days we’re gonna be engaged in search and rescue.

From LaPlace you can see and hear how powerful this storm has been.
