Joanne Rogers Stops Fallon, Talks About Life with Mr. Rogers
Mr. Rogers touched the lives of so many people. None more so than his beloved wife Joanne.
You might want to grab some tissues before watching this interview with Joanne Rogers, the widow of Fred Rogers who is better known as Mr. Rogers. Truth be told, my eyes are still red and puffy from watching the trailer for the documentary about Mr. Rogers' life. However, hearing his wife talk about him and the love they shared is something truly out of the storybooks.
At age 90, Joanne Rogers has been making the rounds at the NBC studios in New York City. She has fond memories of 30 Rock (the nickname given to those studios thanks to their address at 30 Rockefeller Plaza) as her husband spent much of his television career in that building. She is promoting the film 'Won't You Be My Neighbor?' documenting her husband and best friend's life.
As she sits with Jimmy, she reminisces a bit about her love story with Fred, how they met, and the significance of the number 143 to Mr. Rogers both on screen and off. If you listen carefully, you'll find some great advice about how to make a marriage work. After being married for 50 years, I think she knows what she's talking about.
See the trailer for 'Won't You Be My Neighbor?' below. It's due out this summer. Look for the clip of Joanne kissing Fred on set at the 1:25 mark.
