Looking at Your Smartphone All Day Could Cause “Smartphone Face”
Do you or your kids spend hours bent over a smartphone? Watch out! According to Dr. Mervyn Patterson all that time spent bent over your smartphone could cause a case of "smartphone face."
Already, "smartphone face" is causing increased visits to plastic surgeons for chin implants. You see "smartphone face" is sagging jawlines, double chins, smile lines at the corners of the mouth and chin called marionette lines.
According to an interview with Dr. Mervyn Patterson in the London Evening Standard,
“If you sit for hours with your head bent slightly forward, staring at your iPhone or laptop screen, you may shorten the neck muscles and increase the gravitational pull on the jowl area, leading to a drooping jawline.”
A sagging jawline is also one of the first signs of aging, so it's not like looking at your smartphone is the sole cause. Dieting can also cause the face to lose volume and cause a look similar to a bulldog.
I've already started trying to hold my chin up so as to avoid this "smartphone face," but if you are in the market to tighten up that jawline there are many options. You can check out the article on the London Evening Standard for a full list or visit a plastic surgeon or medial spa for a consultation.
