Louisiana Councilman Wants To Declare State Of Emergency Over Crime Stats
Shreveport's city council will vote next week on a resolution that would declare a State of Emergency due to crime. The measure was introduced by Councilman James Green. His district includes the Mooretown neighborhood- which has had a recent spike in violent crime.
Green points to crime stats for the City of Shreveport in the last 18 months, which includes the following reports of violence in District F:
- 19 homicides
- 54 rapes
- 121 persons robbed
- 17 businesses robbed
- 198 aggravated batteries
- 233 aggravated assaults
- 539 residential burglaries
- 164 business burglaries
- 4 purses snatched
- 485 instances of shoplifting
- 91 thefts from businesses
- 526 thefts from residences
- 207 automobiles accessories theft
- 725 packages or other items were taken from automobiles
- 277 automobiles stolen
- 381 reports of general theft
If approved, the resolution would give increased authority of the Chief of Shreveport Police to increase patrols in the trouble areas.
