Bad news on the obesity front for Louisiana. The CDC has released the Adult Obesity Prevalence Maps and Louisiana is one of 12 states where more than 35% of adults are listed as obese.

And this information is from self-reported data!

Here are some of the bullet points from the report:

6 states had an obesity prevalence of 35 percent or higher among non-Hispanic White adults.
15 states had an obesity prevalence of 35 percent or higher among Hispanic adults.
34 states and the District of Columbia had an obesity prevalence of 35 percent or higher among non-Hispanic Black adults.

This report also links obesity rates to a lack of education. It shows adults without a high school degree or equivalent are more likely to be obese. College graduates are far less likely to be obese.

The numbers for the entire nation are not good. In fact, all states have more than 20% of adults reporting they are obese.

Here's the list of 12 states with obesity rates of 35% or higher:

Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

The Midwest (33.9%) and South (33.3%) had the highest prevalence of obesity, followed by the Northeast (29.0%), and the West (27.4%).
