Rapper Hurricane Chris Acquitted of Shreveport Murder Charge

The trial of 32-year-old Christopher Dooley has had national attention. Not because the accusations in the murder case were any different from many of Shreveport's other homicide cases, but because of who Dooley is.

Christopher Dooley is known professionally as Hurricane Chris, and is a Platinum selling musician. He has released multiple studio albums, and has landed two songs in the Top 10 of the charts. Which is why the Shreveport rapper's murder trial became a national story instantly.

Dooley was indicted in 2020 for the shooting death of 32-year-old Danzeria Farris Jr. The shooting took place in June of 2020 at a gas station on Shreveport's Hearne Avenue at Hollywood Avenue.

This year, Dooley was put on trial in a Caddo Parish courtroom for the murder. He faced charges of Second Degree Murder and Possession of Stolen Things. The trial started on Monday, March 6th, and lasted less than two weeks, with a verdict coming on Tuesday, March 14th.

KSLA reports that after a jury of five men and seven women deliberated, they found Dooley Not Guilty on both charges.

Dooley issued a statement after the verdict, saying:

"I wanna thank God, my attorneys and my family for standing with me as my life was on the line. Now I can hug my son and think about raising him to be a man."

Initially, Dooley had claimed self-defense prior to his arrest. But back in 2020, KTBS reported that authorities believed the video they had of the event showed Dooley did not act in self-defense.
