Shreveport Police have arrested a man on multiple charges following a foot pursuit.

At 2:30 a.m., Shreveport Police attempted to stop a vehicle for no headlights in the Westwood Park area. Initially, the driver refused to stop. Upon stopping, a male driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. As the officer attempted to pursue the suspect on foot, two shots were heard by the officer that appeared to come from nearby, however, did not see anyone shooting.

Police responded to the location and quickly set up a perimeter while other officers searched for the suspect on foot. Following a thorough search for the suspect, he was located and taken into custody near the 4900 block of Durham Place. The suspect was later identified as 19 year old Willie Cummings Jr. He also had a stolen firearm in his possession.

 Detectives from the Property Crimes Unit were summoned to this location and began their investigation. Police learned that the suspect’s vehicle, a black Toyota Camry, was reported stolen.

 During an interview with investigators, Cummings told detectives, the firearm that he had accidentally discharged during the foot pursuit.  Cumming is also the suspect in a separate unrelated stolen vehicle incident. Following the interview with investigators, Cummings was charged with two counts of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, one count of Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm, one count of Illegal Use of a Weapon, and multiple outstanding arrest warrants. He booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
