Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet’s Presents Fall For Dance! At The Riverview Theater On September 12, 2015

The Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet (SMB) will present its annual fall showcase, Fall for Dance!, on Saturday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Shreveport’s Riverview Theatre.

In addition to performances by six local dance companies, this year’s event will include an exciting new solo dance competition with live judging.

“We’re always looking for new ways to engage local audiences and get them excited about dance,” said Kendra Meiki, Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet Artistic Director. “Adding this competition to Fall for Dance! taps into the huge following for shows like Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance?, but at the same time we’re educating the audience about different dance forms and showing them the amazing diversity of dance talent that exists in our community.”

SMB has sponsored Fall for Dance! – formerly an outdoor performance known as Ballet Under the Stars – for nearly 20 years. The event has a specific mission to expose local audiences to a variety of different dance forms in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere.

he performance is also affordable, with general admission tickets for adults at just $12, and free admission for children 12 and under.

“Fall for Dance! is one of our primary arts outreach efforts in the community and we are so proud of how it has grown,” said Wanda Thomas, SMB Board President. “Every year at this show, we hear from families who are attending their very first cultural event together and they are so appreciative that they can enjoy a performance of this quality without spending a fortune.”

SMB will perform excerpts from two well-known classical ballets, Sleeping Beauty and Don Quixote. Other participating companies include Christian Dance Center, Cydni’s School of Dance, Endeavor Dance Incorporated, LA Dance Collective, and Theatre School of Dance. Registration for the solo competition was open to all local dancers ages 10 and above.

Also new at Fall for Dance! this year is a VIP event sponsored by Eagle Distributing of Shreveport. VIP tickets are $30 per person and include premium reserved performance seating and admission to a pre-show reception in the Riverview Theatre lobby.
